Privacy Policy — Kristian Hla Bu

Effective 4 September 2026

Kristian Hla Bu ("the app") is a Mizo hymnal published by Worship Committee, Mizoram Synod ("we", "us"). This policy explains what the app collects, why, and what you can do about it.

The short version

The app has no accounts and no sign-in. You can read, play and search every hymn without telling us who you are. We collect anonymous usage statistics and crash reports to keep the app working, and we receive whatever you choose to type into the feedback form. We do not sell your data, and we show no advertising.

What the app stores on your device

- Hymns and scores you have opened, cached locally so they can be read offline.

- Your settings — theme, tempo, key, playback and metronome preferences, and which hymns you have downloaded.

This stays on your device. We cannot read it. Deleting the app deletes all of it.

What the app sends to us

Hymn content requests. The app fetches hymns, categories and settings from our server. Like any web request, our server logs the request together with your IP address, the time, and the app and device version. We use these logs to run and secure the service.

Feedback you submit. If you use "Report a problem with this hymn", we receive the message you write, which hymn it refers to, your platform, and the app version. A contact detail is included only if you type one — it is optional, and the form works without it. We use this solely to understand and fix the problem, and to reply if you asked us to.

Usage statistics and crash reports

The app uses established third-party services to understand how it is used and to learn when it breaks. Through them we receive:

- Usage statistics — when a hymn is opened, when a category is browsed, when playback starts, and which screens are viewed. Alongside these, an app installation identifier, your device model, operating system version, language, and an approximate region derived from your IP address are collected automatically. On Android, an advertising identifier and app install source may also be accessed.

- Crash reports — the error and stack trace, your device model, operating system version, app version, and a random installation identifier.

We use this only in aggregate — to see which hymns are used and where the app is struggling — and never to identify you. These providers process the data on our behalf under their own privacy terms, and we do not permit them to use it to build profiles for advertising.

Permissions the app asks for

- Internet — to fetch hymns.

- Notifications and background playback — so playback continues and shows media controls when the app is not in the foreground.

The app does not request location, microphone, camera, contacts, photos, or files.

What we do not do

- We do not sell or rent your data.

- We show no advertising and use no advertising networks.

- We do not track you across other apps or websites.

- We do not ask for your name, email address, phone number, or payment details.

- We do not knowingly collect information from children. The app is a hymnal suitable for all ages and asks nobody their age, because it asks nobody anything.

Your choices

- Usage statistics and crash reports — you can reset or limit the advertising identifier in your device settings (Android: Settings → Privacy → Ads; iOS: Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking), and uninstalling the app stops all collection.

- Feedback — simply leave the contact field blank, or don't use the form.

- Local data — clear the app's storage, or uninstall it.

- Access or deletion — feedback and server logs are the only records that could conceivably relate to you. Write to us at the address below and we will look for and delete them; please tell us roughly when you wrote in, since without a contact detail there is often nothing tying a message to you.

Retention

Server request logs are kept for a short operating period and then discarded. Feedback is kept while the issue it describes is open, and afterwards for reference. Usage statistics and crash data are retained according to our providers' retention settings.

Changes

We will update this policy when the app changes what it collects, and will move the effective date above. Material changes will be noted in the app's release notes.
